COVID-19: Cases rise and requests for use of chinstraps

The coronavirus has become another flu-like respiratory disease for the health system. Its circulation will be permanent, so the number of cases is monitored and the community is asked not to give up preventive measures against COVID-19: vaccination and isolation when symptoms appear.

Coronavirus infection has been minimal for months. However, they began to increase in recent epidemiological weeks. In the last two periods assessed, there were 247 officially confirmed positive cases of COVID-19. There were more positive ones than those recorded in the previous nine weeks.

The biggest concern in health is the lack of access to booster doses of coronavirus vaccines. “The sense of danger was lost, something that happened all over the country,” said Health Minister Fabian Zagaib, to explain why the level of application of booster doses dropped.

Hospitals began warning that cases were rising so neighbors took action. In Fernandez Oro, for example, he explained that he went from 0 to 11 cases in two days. It should be kept in mind that there are some suspected cases that are confirmed by swabs, so the number of positive cases recorded does not reflect all patients.

From the Fernandez Oro Hospital, he recommended that residents use a chinstrap in closed spaces, especially for those who are part of risk groups. It is also advised to self-isolate and consult a doctor if you show symptoms conducive to the disease.

In Oro, one of the confirmed patients remains hospitalized. Vaccination is the best way to prevent an infected person from suffering serious consequences from the disease. The fifth dose has already been implemented for most of the population. Four months should elapse between each dose.

Zagaib warned that the proportion of hospitalized patients in the province is too low and these are usually people who do not complete the vaccination schedule, so he recommended applying the relevant doses of vaccines. The official assured this week that the doses are available in all hospitals.

The lethality of the disease is another indicator of the effectiveness of vaccines, as it has decreased significantly due to the large-scale application of doses. In the last 15 weeks, four people infected with Kovid have died in Rio Negro.
