Cuba vs. Dominican Republic in Continental Volleyball Championship

The Cuban women’s volleyball team meets the Dominican Republic today on day one of the North, Central America, and the Caribbean (Norceca) Continental Championships in Quebec, Canada, which features seven teams divided into two groups.

In the period up to September 3rd, Leivis Garca’s students will open the action in Stage B of the preliminary round against the Dominicans, then later face the Americans and the Costa Ricans.

Led by Leivis Garca, the Cubans won the bronze medal at last week’s Norceca Final Six Pan American Cup in Santo Domingo, where the gold and silver medals went to the USA and Dominican Republic, respectively.

The squad of the largest of the Antilles includes corner players Diaris Pérez, Ailama Cesé, and Ivy May Vila; opponents Dezirett Madan and Greisy Finé; central defenders Dayana Martnez, Jessica Aguilera, and Laura Suárez; passers Gretell Moreno and Thala Moreno; and Ellemay Miranda in Libero-Functions.

According to the website www.norceca.net, the other two games this Tuesday will be Canada-Mexico in Group A and USA-Costa Rica in Group B.

According to the program announced by the organizers, the quarterfinal stage is scheduled for September 1, with second and third places crossing in each segment.

A day later, the fifth step will be determined, and the semi-finals will take place, a phase to which the winners of each group will advance. Thirdly, the bronze and gold medals will be discussed in that order.

Cuba is the biggest winner in the event’s history with 13 gold, seven silver, and two bronze medals, followed by the United States with eight gold, 12 silver, and three bronze medals.
