Cubadebate attacks private companies over US flag on American hamburger

The official portal for Cuba debate attacked a private company in Havana for using a toothpick with an American flag to decorate the American hamburger sold there.

In his article “Rey & Gaby: Of symbols and flags that do not represent us”, published this Friday, he criticizes the fact that the restaurant at G and 25 in Vedado contained this United States flag in the “American Burger”, prepared with fried egg, Gouda cheese, bacon, lettuce, tomato, and French fries.

The outlet claims the initiative is part of “cultural colonization and commercialization of identity.”

He says: “What may seem commonplace in other places, for example, with Mexican or Italian food, has a double reading in a time when cultural colonization is enforced with greater force and in culture, including cuisine, than mere nothingness is viewed.” Merchandise and patterns are constantly reproduced to sell a “parallel reality” over 90 miles away, often in disguise.

The Cuban government press also accuses Rey and Gaby of inflating prices and calls on the government to “yell at the cat” on the matter, without mentioning that this is the case inflation in the country It is the fault of the regime’s flawed economic policies.

“The atmosphere seems pink: dishes with presence and quality, refined work by a kitchen group that is by no means amateur, in contrast to prices three times the average for establishments managed by the non-governmental sector, from an espresso to 300 cups, a natural water at 320, a national soft drink at 380, or a malt at 570. These numbers raise other questions: Who is responsible for capping private venue prices? Controls the maximum resale “The price of domestic products is several times higher than imported products. Who rings the bell?” he emphasizes in the Cuba debate.

The Cuban regime decides what is “right or wrong” on the island as it sees fit, including the use of flags.

For example, as a result of the rapprochement with Russia, the government recently celebrated the founding of an MSME from Bayamo that will open the “Red Square Café-Grill”, a restaurant specializing in Russian cuisine managed by an MSME, and the opening ceremony was attended by representatives of the regime in that area. In this case, no one accused the entrepreneurs of being culturally colonized by Moscow.

“Big inauguration of the Café-Grill Plaza Roja with the presence of figures from the government, the party, and part of the Russian community in Bayamo Where the fusion of two countries merges into a dish to taste!” announced the sublimagen mipyme on Facebook.

In the pictures of the inauguration, you can see the place decorated in Russian style and the waiters in typical clothes of the Eurasian nation.

Prosecutors recently suggested a four-year prison sentence for activist Aniette González for covering his body with a Cuban flag while allowing those close to him to use the symbol at will.
