Cuban exiles living in Florida demonstrated to express their opposition to the presence in Miami of members of the Puentes de Amor movement and Valerio Coco, an ally of the Cuban regime.
The protest took place in Little Havana, the heart of the Cuban community in South Florida. It was convened by the Exilio Unido Ya group, which organizes demonstrations every last Sunday of the month to demand the freedom of Cuba and political prisoners.
According to activist Marcel Valdés in Miami, there is no place for those who are accomplices to the Castro dictatorship.
The demonstrators caught Valerio Coco, whom they describe as the regime’s henchman and spokesman, in his car. Faced with the claim, Coco decided to tear down a poster in support of Bridges of Love that she had in her vehicle and leave the nervous location.
Those taking part in the protest included former Cuban political prisoners Iliana Curra Lussón and Xiomara Cruz Miranda, Lady in White.
According to Valdés, the goal is to debunk the staging that Puentes de Amor wants to show about a false reality on the island. He pointed out that they are trying to whitewash the regime’s face in order for the United States to remove Cuba from the list of countries that support terrorism.
He recalled when, in another similar demonstration last April, they managed to break up a caravan that wanted to carry out Puentes de Amor in the city in support of the island’s government.
The leader of the group, Carlos Lazo, encourages this type of caravan and calls for the end of the embargo and the normalization of relations with the dictatorship. His proposals are in line with the regime’s foreign policy agenda.
Even the ruler Miguel DÃaz-Canel has publicly thanked Puentes de Amor for his work, confirming the links between the two. This organization was recently under investigation for a possible violation of the Foreign Agents Registration Act.
