Cuban political leadership examines economic and social goals

In the first days of January, the high political leadership of the country visited five provinces to unravel the ties and find solutions to advance faster. In Caibarién and Cabaiguan, the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Party and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, shared with farmers, directors of agro-industrial companies, and the people.

He explained that “we visited and toured the entire country, where in each province we visited a municipality to see how the programs are going, especially for economic and social development. “Then, together with the leading cadres of the provinces and municipalities, we made a group of reflections on the work priorities, on the part of the Party, for the year 2024.”

With respect to the community, he emphasized that “social change must start with the participation of the population.” In the northern town of Villa Clara, he arrived at a jam factory equipped with very modern technology and the Dionisio Rivero Montalvo Grandparents House, where 25 Cubans are happy to live and benefit from the center.

In Cabaiguán, he went to the farm of Santa Gertrudis. There, Alex Raúl Castañeda has wrapped tobacco and various crops. They are blocked, like everyone else; they achieve results. “How do we generalize this?” asked the Head of State, who visited the farm belonging to the Cabaiguán Agroindustrial Company, accompanied by the member of the Political Bureau and Secretary of Organization of the Central Committee of the Communist Party, Roberto Morales Ojeda, like the entire route.

Díaz-Canel stated that we see two types of people: those who fold their arms and do nothing, and those who do things. “Those who need it, he said, are those who inspire action.”

He visited, in the district of Sancti Spiritus, the family business Laminados Concepción, which produces the thin layers of cedar that are inserted into the cigar boxes, and the Sergio Soto Oil Refinery, which refines the national crude oil and has 270 workers.

At the meeting of local authorities in Cabaiguán, he also reflected on the effort at the national level not to stop the development of 32 social programs, in one of the most difficult moments. They are there, he pointed out: the grandparents’ homes, the mother’s homes, and the daycare centers. “How, if social programs are protected, can anyone think that the population is not protected?” he summed up.
