Thirteen immigrants from China, Ecuador, Cuba, Jamaica, and the Dominican Republic operated a maritime smuggling operation near Key Biscayne in the United States.
Faced with this threat, US Border Patrol agents and the Southeast Homeland Security Task Force detained the vessel.
For his part, Agent Walter N. Slossar expressed on the social network Twitter that the incident was being investigated. For more information, the official attached a picture of the boat in which the migrants were traveling along with the message.
There are no more specific details about the case yet, although it is known that the migrant is in the custody of law enforcement in Florida.
Although not with the same intensity and volume as in recent years, Cuban rafters continue to arrive in the United States. All this, despite changes in immigration policies to be implemented in January 2023 by the administration of President Joe Biden.
On April 25, 20 Cuban rafters arrived in Key West via an artesian boat. The United States Border Patrol indicated that the said landing took place in Dry Tortugas National Park.
For example, just days ago, the US Coast Guard turned back 82 Cuban rafters who tried to enter the country illegally. These rafters, who tried to come in four different boats, were intercepted off the coast of Florida.
But they weren’t alone, this week the government of the Bahamas also deported a group of Cuban rafters. According to Cuban officials, these irregular migrants were repatriated by air on a direct flight to Havana.
With them are already 41 Cuban rafters who left by sea for the United States and were detained in the waters of the Bahamas.
In this sense, US officials have been quite clear when they emphasize that they will not accept illegal entry of migrants. On the other hand, he made it clear that those who tried would be deported back to Cuba and would not be able to take advantage of humanitarian parole.
