DA: Marin County swim coach not charged in sex crime case

The district attorney said the Marin County swim coach, who was arrested in a sex crime case, will not face criminal charges.

John Glenn Chipponeri, 59, of San Rafael, was arrested on May 25 following an investigation by the San Rafael Police Department and other county agencies.

The detectives placed an advertisement on an adult site offering sexual services. Police stated that while the ad did not specifically offer sex with minors, the language in the ad suggested that a minor might be available.

Police say Chipponeri responded to the ad and expressed a desire to meet a 16-year-old girl for sex. He allegedly set a date and time for the meeting, but never showed up.

Police traced the call to Chipponeri’s phone and held him for questioning. The police then detained him on suspicion of arranging an acquaintance with a minor for sex.

Chipponeri was released on bail while the Marin County District Attorney’s office reviewed the case. Prosecutors declined to press charges, District Attorney Lori Frugoli said Tuesday. She declined to comment further on the decision.
