A relative of a teenager recorded a video in which she narrates that as time passed, the jealousy grew and started crying.
Experts and users of the social network warn about the dangers of eating an extremely spicy potato chip as part of a viral challenge going viral on the Internet.
Known as the ‘One Chip Challenge’, the challenge involves eating a firm brand of potato chip, drinking any liquid or abstaining from eating anything else. According to Paqui’s website, that potato content includes “the hottest peppers on the planet,” Carolina Reaper and Scorpion varieties “with a shocking twist that will turn your tongue blue”.
TikTok user @angela_b157 posted a viral recording of her niece in hospital after attempting the challenge. The video has garnered 10.7 million views and several follow-up videos have been made about the horrific situation.
Though everything seems normal after trying the ‘chip’, in a later video the girl explains that as time went on, the jealousy grew and started crying. In the end, she had to be taken to the hospital, where she was given different medications, which took hours to ease her acute abdominal pain.
Medical experts and social media users who attempted the spicy challenge have warned of the potential danger of the trend, which has reportedly landed some netizens, including children, in hospital in excruciating pain.
Last January it was reported that several high school students in the US city of Lodi, Calif., had been hospitalized after completing the same challenge.
According to Dr. Brett Christiansen, these peppers are about 400 times hotter than a jalapeno, as both the Carolina Reaper and Scorpion varieties have a heat scale of about 2 million Scoville units, while the jalapeno has about 5,000. The doctor warned that the consequences could be dire for those who decide to accept the challenge of the ‘One Chip Challenge’.
