Madrid
Valencia defender Moctar Diakhaby waved an anti-racism flag with his teammates ahead of Valencia’s La Liga loss to Mallorca on Thursday.
A banner reading “Racists out of football” has been shown at every league match after Real Madrid striker Vinicius Junior was racially attacked in a match against Valencia on Sunday.
As the players of both teams and the referee staff stood at the signal before the start of the match, Diakhaby walked behind them, lying down and waiting for the ceremony to end.
Diakhaby, who is black, accused him of racial discrimination in 2021, but nothing was done because the authorities at the time said there was not enough evidence that he had been abused. He was brought up against the most worthy authorities on account of his failure to substantiate his accusation.
On the day Vinicius was abused in Valencia, Diakhaby sent a message of support to the Brazilian striker and said he hoped the club would do everything necessary to severely punish those involved.
Vinicius and Valentia said that the three fans caught insulting them were banned from staying at the Mestalla stadium.
The flags were launched as part of a new campaign against racism by the Spanish Federation, the Spanish Federation and the Spanish Government.
The wreckage of Valencia was in danger of being relegated for two days. They are in 13th place, but only two points outside the relegation zone.
On Sunday, he will take on the penultimate runner-up with Espanyol, as part of the Mestalla stadium is closed due to abuse against Vinicius next weekend. The team’s initial appeal against the penalty was denied on Thursday.
Valencia coach Rubén Baraga said that his players were “moved” by the result of recent days in the relationship against Vinicius. The club was also fined 45,000 coins ($48,200). Valencia beat Real Madrid 1-0 on Sunday.
Vidal Muriqui scored the game-winner in the 64th minute for the locals, who dropped down to eleventh place.
Also on Thursday, Osasuna reached seventh – and in last place in Europe – with a 2-0 home win against Athletic Bilbao. Athletics, who won only one of their last six league games, dropped to eighth.
