Did the Washington football team leak the name of their new team?

Is the Washington football team going to be the Washington Admirals? Detectives are on the lookout and one of them, JP Finlay from NBC Washington and 106.7 The Fan, thinks they busted the case by typing in WashingtonAdmirals.com and finding out that it’s redirected to WashingtonFootball.com Is.

WashingtonAdmirals.com now redirects to a site raising funds for food service workers.

For those keeping an eye on the home, WashingtonFootball.com is the current homepage for the former Redskins franchise that was converted into the Washington football team.

“It could just be someone with the redirect url. Will be a fun month of speculation,” Finlay tweeted this week.

Dan Snyder’s big name is set to be revealed on February 2. On Tuesday, the franchise announced that two potential names had been dropped from consideration.

“Initially we understood Wolves – or some variation thereof – were one of our fan favourites,” team chairman Jason Wright said in a statement on the team site. “As I have always said, we take feedback from our fans seriously, and because of your interest in this name, we have put Wolves on our list of options to explore thoroughly. Once we have seen Wolves However, we became aware of a notable challenge: trademarks held by other teams would limit our ability to make the name our own. And without Wolves, variations like RedWolves would not have been viable for these and other reasons.

“Understanding the weight and importance of our team name, and the enthusiasm about other name choices – both internally and within our fan base – we did not want to risk going down a route that is fraught with legal hurdles. Years of likely litigation was not something we wanted you, our fans, to endure when you started to embrace a new brand.”

So you can remove wolves or red wolves from the list of possible names. In September, Washington CEO Tanya Snyder revealed on Adam Schefter’s podcast that there were eight possible names in the race. With Tuesday’s announcement, if the team were to be out about running names, the six would stand.

Surviving names include Armada, Presidents, Brigades, Defenders, Redhogs, and Commanders.
