The Alameda County District Attorney’s Office late last month charged 22-year-old Hayward Parole with major misdemeanor and robbery charges in connection with the 2020 assault, officials said.
In a statement on Thursday, Fremont police said a 75-year-old man went to a Newark bank on July 6, 2020, where three suspects in a white Chrysler 300 saw him receive money before returning to their vehicle.
According to charge documents obtained from the district attorney’s office, the suspect followed the man to his Fremont home, where the two eloped and ran away before escaping from a Chrysler and taking $1,500 in cash, a Samsung cell phone and a $600 gold ring. . ,
Officers responding to the attack found footage on city-owned surveillance cameras showing the victim’s car driving east along Stevenson Boulevard from Interstate 880, followed by Chrysler, as well as the victim’s car. Footage was found from a camera outside the sidelines of Chrysler in the chase.
After learning that one of the two attackers had touched the victim’s shirt, officers collected it for detectives, who sent it to a forensic laboratory in San Mateo County. Soon after, a lab criminal found a DNA sample that had a less than 1 in 350 billion chance of belonging to someone other than Hayward Parole. The victim told investigators that he did not know the parole, had only gone to the bank that day and came back home, saying that his shirt had been cleaned and washed before it was put on.
After officers arrested Parole, who was arrested on April 6 on suspicion of at least two Union City Bank parking-lot robberies, the district attorney’s office charged him with felony and aggravated misconduct on April 27. According to county records checks, he was listed in custody at Santa Rita Jail on Thursday on bail of at least $585,000 and is facing multiple hearings on Monday at the Rene Davidson Courthouse in Oakland.
