When it comes to products made here in Rockford, Mrs. Fisher Potato Chips always tops the list as one of my favorites. Maybe some forced recipe changes over the years have changed their tastes a bit, but I don’t care, I could eat a bagful in one sitting if I allowed myself.

For as long as I can remember, my whole family has been eating Mrs. Fisher’s potato chips. When I was a kid, my grandparents always had buckets of these chips sitting on their dining room hutch, and it seemed like just yesterday I was sipping a handful of them when no one was looking. For all these reasons and more, I’m ashamed to admit that today was the day I changed my favorite potato chips to a different name and the name change was the result of a broken marriage.
According to Mrs. Fisher’s Potato Chips’ Website,
Ethel and Eugene Fischer began making potato chips in 1932 from their home on Charles and 7th Street. It was originally named Mr. Fisher Potato Chips, but when Eugene left Ethel during the Depression she changed it to Mrs. Fisher. When he needed more room, his business moved to a small brick building at the corner of 6th St. and 5th Ave.
I was also thrilled to learn that Mrs. Fisher’s Potato Chips has managed to stay in the same family-owned business for over 80 years. If you want to know what inspired the Fisher family to start making delicious fried slices of potato, this rockford miss Very interesting post…
