We have seen how the price of RAM has fallen this year to truly ridiculous prices, to put it in a way. Today, 32GB kits cost the same as 16GB kits about two years ago.
The prices come from a large excess of supply and a very low demand. So much so that the main DRAM memory manufacturers have agreed to a strong downward adjustment in the production of this type of memory.
Who are the main manufacturers of RAM memory?
When we ask you about some names of RAM memory manufacturers, there are many names that immediately come to mind. These are Corsair, Kingston, ADATA, Crucial, Team Group or Patriot. But, which of these do users buy the most?
TrendForce published a report in which it showed what the top sellers on RAM memory on 2022. Although we are closing the year, this information refers to the previous year. This is normal, because collecting and quantifying data is quite complicated.
The report highlights a sales decline by 4.6% at a general level relative to 2021. It may seem like bad data, but a greater decrease in sales is expected for this year.
This report highlights that Kingston is the largest seller of souvenirs with more than one 78% share market share in 2022. It may seem like an unreasonable number, but it has been around 75-80% share for many years.
The second position is for Ramaxelis a Chinese manufacturer that offers generic modules, with a 3.78% of the quota. We are in third position NEEDLE with a 3.33% of the quota. We go to the fourth position with POWEVa Chinese manufacturer that sells only in that country and has a 2.88% of the quota. In the end, we were in fifth position Kimtigo, also a manufacturer in China, with a 2.33% of the quota.
Patriot, Innodisk, Team Groupo and Apacer, other major RAM module manufacturers, have less than 1% share. There is a 4.15% remaining occupied by other brands with shares of less than 0.7%.
Brands that don’t appear on the list, surprisingly
Surely at first glance, you will miss some unique brands in this segment. The three most famous are G.Skill, Crucial (Micron) and Corsair, which are the leading manufacturers of this type of modules. Above all, the big flaw we found was that of the Corsair, which reached the 3% share and suddenly disappeared.
It caught our attention that among the 10 biggest sellers there are 4 manufacturers that only sell mostly generic modules in China. These memories are possibly used in OEM systems and budget gaming systems. Two of the most common types of systems in China.
Tell us what you think of this ranking and if you think it’s surprising that so many important brands are missing.
