Dolphin-Jets Predictions: Will a sudden surge of Dolphins win their third straight game?

Dolphins (3-7) in the Jets (2-7), Sunday, 1 p.m., CBS

Latest line: Dolphins are favored by 3 1/2 points. more/less: 44.

Dave Hyde, sports columnist (season record: 5-5): Dolphins 20, Jets 13

The Jets have one of the worst offenses in the NFL. Joe Flaco isn’t going to change that. An old statue in the pocket against a blazing defense of dolphins? It’s a way for the Dolphins to continue this defense-triggered two-game winning streak.

Omar Kelly, Dolphins columnist (season record: 6-4): Dolphins 23, Jets 20

The Jets will turn to quarterback Joe Flacco, 36, with hopes of stabilizing Miami’s blitz overload. But the veteran is a shell he once was, and the Jets have a worse offense than the Dolphins. Miami needs to prove it can be a respectable team by sweeping the Jets. The all-time series is surprisingly tied 55-55-1 between longtime rivals.

David Furones, Dolphins writer (season record: 6-4): Dolphins 24, Jets 17

The Dolphins are starting to put together some positives, especially on defense. Rookie quarterback Zack Wilson is still recovering from a knee injury and former varsity school standout Mike White threw four interceptions in his last game, turning the Jets to Joe Flacco, who has barely played this season. With Tua Tagovailoa’s finger injury healing, the Jets rank last in defense and total defense, and the Dolphins are coming off last weekend’s holiday “mini byes” after Thursday night’s win over Baltimore.

The Jets have the NFL’s worst-ranked defense and a minus-15 in turnover margin. They have lost at least 45 points in three of their last four matches. He has also dropped 175 points and 1,890 yards during that period. The resurgent Dolphins have won six of the last seven bouts and must continue to dominate their longtime rivals.

Keven Lerner, assistant sports editor (season record: 6-4): Dolphins 23, Jets 20

The Jets are already on high alert in the Dolphins’ aggressive Cover Zero plan. After watching Miami close out Baltimore’s Lamar Jackson with a heavy attack, the Jets would start veteran Joe Flacco at quarterback on inexperienced Mike White. Miami will likely once again rely on their blitz-filled pass rush and dare the Jets to try to beat them deep. While Flaco is better equipped to handle the blitz package to recognize coverage and get the ball out quickly, the Dolphins will likely rattle him enough. Flaco is 7-1 against Miami.

Steve Sweckis, assistant sports editor (season record: 5-5): Dolphins 30, Jets 13

The Dolphins defense is flying around, with rookies Jaylen Phillips and Jevon Holland flaunting their elite athleticism more and more. The Jets have allowed an average of over 43 points in a game over the past four games, so Miami can set their season high for points in a game (currently 28 runs against the Raiders and Falcons).
