Dolphins center Michael Dieter returns to practice, but Miami receivers still need more time

Miami Dolphins center Michael Deiter returned to practice on Wednesday as he neared a return from a leg injury that had kept him on injured reserve since Oct.

Deiter was seen working with a compression sleeve on his right leg at Wednesday’s practice before the Dolphins’ Sunday home game against the Carolina Panthers (5-6).

Miami (4-7) will see how Deiter proceeds this week to determine whether the team will activate him from IR before Sunday or in the coming weeks.

Dolphins coach Brian Flores mentioned ahead of Wednesday’s session that he hopes they are close to returning to practice – running receivers Will Fuller (finger) and DeVante Parker (hamstrings) and Malcolm Brown (quadriceps) back – He needs more time to recover from his injuries. All wounded are eligible to be activated from reserve once they are ready.

“Everyone’s getting closer, just not enough,” Flores said.

Flores addressed the Dolphins’ addition of veteran safety Will Parks from the San Francisco 49ers’ practice squad on Tuesday.

“Obviously, he has some experience in this league — free defense, strong defense, kicking game,” said Flores of Parks, dressed in number 36 at Miami’s Wednesday practice. “An opportunity to add him to the roster, take a look at that. Some people beat up. He also played a role in this. Have seen him over the years, and have had the opportunity to join our team. ,

Flores said cornerback Jamal Perry’s knee injury was caused by Sunday’s win over the New York Jets and he was landed on the IR on Tuesday, ending the season.

“Hate when it happens,” Flores said. “He has been a significant contributor to this team for three years. He has been on active [roster], This year, he is in the practice squad. He was active last weekend, and unfortunately, that would be season-ending. ,

The team is hopeful, however, that outside linebacker Brennan Scarlett, who was placed on injured reserve on Tuesday with a knee injury on Sunday, can return before the end of the season.

“It will be at least three weeks, and we’ll take it from there,” Flores said. “I don’t want to put a timeline on that.”

In his absence, Flores said the Dolphins would sign fellow outside linebacker Vince Beagle from the practice squad to the 53-man roster.

A valuable member of Miami’s 2019 defense, the Beagle missed the 2020 season with a torn Achilles. He was back with the Dolphins for training camp earlier this season, but was released with an injury settlement before the Dolphins and then brought him back to the practice team in October.

“I think he’s turning around well,” Flores said. “I think he brought a lot of juice, energy, to practice when we brought him twice.”

During media viewing of Wednesday’s practice, tight end Adam Shaheen and defensive back Eliza Campbell were not seen. Shaheen was walking quite limp after a play as he ran back to the shore in the Jets on Sunday.
