DUI suspected crashes in Chico

CHICO – An overnight crash on West First Avenue and the Esplanade resulted in the arrest of the DUI as well as the blackout of traffic lights.

It all started when Chico Police Department officers were sent to the Esplanade area near Panama Avenue to respond to the disorderly Ford Mustang at about 10:55 pm on Tuesday, according to a press release issued Wednesday by the department.

The officers were unable to locate the car at the time, but about two hours later, according to law enforcement, it is the same car that collided with another car. at West 1st Avenue and Esplanade.

The Mustang’s driver was reportedly 19-year-old Rebecca Griffiths. Police said the Mustang was driving south on the Esplanade when it passed a red light and crashed into another vehicle heading west.

The Mustang then slid into the intersection light control box, causing them to turn off temporarily.

Officers say Griffiths was drunk and arrested on suspicion of drunk driving, having committed a felony due to his injuries, and taken to Butte County Jail.

The driver of the other involved vehicle sustained minor injuries and was taken to hospital for a checkup.

Chico Public Works arrived at the scene to fix the traffic control unit.
