Between the day’s closing on Wednesday, the first athletics at the V ALBA Games, and the Cuban delegation this Thursday, it added eight more titles.

Just as Yaritza Martinez won her hammer throw gold in the morning session on Wednesday, Yasmani Fernandez dominated the test among the men with a record of 69.41m, almost ten meters ahead of second place. He was followed on the podium by Nicaraguan Carlos Alberto Arteaga with 59.98 and Venezuela’s Villaclavman Subero with 56.67, according to the Games’ official website.

Similarly, at the Military Academy of the Bolivarian National Guard, in Fuerte Tiuna, Alejandro Parada established himself as the best long jumper in the fight at 7.87m, ahead of hosts Léodan Torrealba (7.72) and Wuilliam Landinez (6.71).

Roxana Gómez won the 400 m with a time of 50.73 seconds, followed by her compatriot Lisnadie Veitia with a time of 52.49 seconds. Villamar Padron of Venezuela came in third with a time of 54.58.

For Gomez, a finalist at Tokyo-2020, it’s an excellent mark, especially for going below 51 seconds for the first time in years. In the collision trials held at the Pan-American Stadium in Havana, he had a personal best time of 51.53. The record also inspires confidence for the upcoming Central American and Caribbean Games, in which she can take on Dominican Merildy Paulino, Olympic and world silver medalist in recent editions.

Similarly, Rose Marie Almanza and Daley Cooper made a two in the 1,500 metres. Almanza won with 4:25.69 minutes, while Cooper won with 4:27.23 minutes; Local Maria Luisa Garrido took the bronze (4:28.84).

For her part, Kaylee Perez won the 100-meter hurdles with a second advantage over Venezuelan Mariangelic Rojas (13.84 to 14.84).

Almost at the end of the day, Greater Antilles took the gold in the hectameter in both genders through Unisledi García and Reinaldo Espinoza. In addition, the mixed relay won the 4×400 with a national record of 3:17.33 minutes. As per the win, the process of approval of the said registry is pending.
