Others cashing in in the men’s division were: 2, Bill Stone, 95 points; 3, Chuck Lohse (now a Texan), 91 points; 4, Bruce Hubble, 90 points.

Karen Beckman and Connie Anderson finished first in the women’s section with 100 points each. Jenny Stone finished third with 97 points. Debbie Maderos rounded out the pay spot for fourth place with 86 points. Unfortunately, the group’s organizer and its head, Ted Blofsky, were unable to attend this year, but hopefully next year will be a different story.

local high school golf

The Local Area High School Golf League held its final match of the season at Butte Creek CC and was dominated by the Pleasant Valley team, as expected (at least by me anyway). Jordan Boles and Andrew Ma took the medalist honours, each shooting a score of 76. All six members of the PVHS golf team were selected for the First Team All-League, which I am sure is unprecedented. The team’s next challenge will be the sectionals, and if the trend continues, it will be in the state championship after the sections.

junior golf

Andrew Ma finished third among boys in the 15-18 age group at the recent US Kids Sanctioned Tournament held at Swenson Park GC in Stockton. Ami Na finished first in the girls, 15–18 division in the same tournament.

in Memoriam

The El Rancho Chico Golf Club and the golfing community in general, have lost one of their longtime members, a legend and hero to those who enjoy competitive golf. Don Cummings died at the age of 94, just a year after achieving 6th hole in one. Don Bidwell Park was dedicated to the golf course and was a founding member (number 76) of the El Rancho Chico Golf Club. I personally had the privilege of participating in golf tournaments with Don; i.e. Wilcox Open at Red Bluff and Mid Valley Seniors at Bidwell. Don’s got so many victories, and/or one of the top three finishers, at so many Bidwell and Chico SIR tournaments, that it’s so long on the list. Don was a strong competitor, fair to the bone, and a role model for all of us, who enjoyed his camaraderie and competitive spirit on the course. His loss will be greatly missed by all.
