In August 2022, The Driven collected electric vehicle sales data in Australia and identified the top selling models of the month. The clear winner was Tesla, with the Model Y and Model 3 taking the top two spots. The BYD Atto 3 also performed well and is on track to surpass 10,000 this year.
The rest of the EVs on the list lagged behind the top contenders. The MG ZS EV saw sales fall in August, falling to eighth place for the month. This drop is due to consumers turning their attention to the newer, more affordable MG4.
However, there were other outstanding models in August. The newly introduced MG4 debuted with 296 sales, ranking fifth in its first month on the market. The GWM Ora also increased its sales figures with 90 units sold, bringing the total to 212.
Other electric vehicles that sold well in August included the Volvo XC Recharge, Kia EV6 and Cupra Born. The Kia EV6 may have benefited from sales of its high-performance GT version, while the Cupra Born had one of its best months of the year.
Overall, Tesla continued to dominate the electric vehicle market in Australia. With the Model Y and Model 3 at the top, Tesla cemented its position as the country’s best-selling brand.
