Elon Musk acknowledged that he is “the reason OpenAI exists,” referring to his investment in artificial intelligence.
Elon Musk, owner of Tesla and SpaceX as well as Twitter, said in an interview with CNBC that he was one of the first investors in OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT, which he said was instrumental in recruiting key scientists and engineers.
He did not mention the exact amount, though he said he had invested an amount of around $50 million.
But he stopped supporting OpenAI because of disagreements with top officials about the pace of this technological advancement and the current debate about the risk it could represent as a potential threat to humanity.
The billionaire is also among scientists who have called for halting the development of advanced AI (artificial intelligence) until safeguards are put in place to prevent it from being used for malicious purposes.
Elon Musk claimed on Tuesday that he is "the reason OpenAI exists," citing his past investment in the entity, and that Microsoft exerts control over the AI company, an assertion strongly denied by Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella. https://t.co/yEU1gYLa2S pic.twitter.com/315BiZarzH
