Waco, Texas – A Little League batsman wakes up after being hit to comfort a distraught pitcher in an emotional scene during a regional tournament game Tuesday in Waco.
The incident occurred during the Little League Southwest Regional Playoff Finals.
Pearland, Texas, pitcher Caiden Shelton was facing Isaiah Jarvis in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on Tuesday when a 0-2 pitch missed him and slammed into Jarvis’ helmet. Who rushed to the aid of his worried trainers, clutching his head and fell to the ground.
Moments later, Jarvis’ head became so numb that he was able to walk unassisted to first base. Meanwhile, Shelton was looking at the ground on the mound and crying over what happened.
After a moment, Jarvis walked over to the mound and hugged Shelton, saying, “Hey, you’re doing great. Let’s go”.
Shelton’s teammates and coach gathered around the pair to rest the right-hander.
The gesture gave a standing ovation. Pearland beat Tulsa 9-4 and advance to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pa., which begins next week.
