Enlo Medical Center, Jesus Center announce partnership

CHICO – Enlo Medical Center and Jesus Center on Tuesday announced a partnership to increase access to medical care for people without homes in the community.

Enlo Medical Center committed $500,000 to ensure that space is available on the Renovation Center campus, a Jesus Center project located on Fair Street, according to a press release from the Jesus Center and Enlo Medical Center.

“We are delighted to partner with the Jesus Center, not only to care for those experiencing homelessness, but also to care for those who are too sick to be on the street but too good to be in hospital, Mike Wiltermood Hospital CEO said in the press release. “The Renewal Center program model is flexible, accommodating and uniquely able to address this health benefit need, while helping us ensure that enough beds are available for people in need of inpatient care.”

Amber Abni-Bas, executive director of the Jesus Center, said the renovation center will house 100 beds, which will also include 14 family units. She said family units have a full bathroom and a kitchen.

“We’re really trying to design those spaces as traumatized as we can,” Abney-Bass said, “so that families can have a soft landing between being homeless and going into a transitional housing program.” get the opportunity.

The partnership between Enlo Medical Center and Jesus Center began more than four years ago in the process of planning the renovation center. That was when both Enlo Medical Center and Jesus Center worked with Butte County Public Health, managed care providers and other local service providers to focus on access to care for those without homes in the community.

Abney-Bass said the Jesus Center expects to break ground on the renovation center in February. She said it could break ground in March depending on the weather. Abney-Bass said the Jesus Center is looking at construction for about 12 months. The renovation center is expected to open in 2024.
