The 57th edition of Fire Safety Week began in the province of Cienfuegos with the aim of taking care of the population and labor groups in works prone to the emergence of unexpected fires.
“Well, on this day we are going to develop activities in residential and state areas, aimed at prevention in the objectives of technological risks,” said Colonel Juan Antonio González Villarreal, deputy head of the Ministry of the Interior in the Cienfuegos region.
“In this way, we intend to make leaders and activists aware of the importance of knowing how they can protect property and human life,” he added.
Gathered in the areas of the Clinical Engineering and Electromedicine Center, representatives of the professional forces and volunteers of the Fire Brigade appreciated the recognition of the working groups belonging to the Ministry of Energy and Mines, BiocubaPharma, Domestic Trade, Ministry of Communications, BASIC. industry, among others, for compliance with the containment measures during the last year.
The meeting was attended by Mariday Fernández López, member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and first secretary in Cienfuegos; Lt. Col. Lazaro Cedeño Nuñez, Chief of the Fire Department, and Dr. Ygen Pomares, Provincial Director of Public Health, Key Region.
In his speech, Galena explained that “in the centers and institutions of public health, the stability of the fire protection system is guaranteed and there have been no incidents that endanger the various areas and equipment. Safety and Assurance visits by those responsible for conservation and inspections can confirm this”.
On this day, a demonstration exercise at the Electromedicine Center demonstrated the brigade’s expertise in extinguishing flames in various ways, depending on the scenario where accidents occur.
Afterwards, in the rural area of Cansa Vaca and at the Rodas Cemetery, a representation of Cienfuegos firefighters paid tribute to combatants who had died in the line of duty.
During this week there will be skill competitions among fire brigades, introspection at workplaces, training for fire brigades and will culminate with the performance of Exercise Meteoro 2023 on 20th and 21st May.
