The Mayor of Guadalajara, Ana Guarinos, and the Security Councilor, Chema Antón, received Daniel Barchino and Jorge Serrano, podium finishers in the Police and Fire Brigade Olympiads, accompanied by the City Council’s Chief Fire Officer, Ignacio Jimeno.
Jorge Serrano and Daniel Barchino, members of the Guadalajara Fire Department, took part in the World Police and Fire Games, also known as the Police and Fire Brigade Olympiad, in Canada last July.
It is a biennial competition that brings together security forces and firefighters from around the world.
At this year’s edition, both firefighters from Guadalajara emerged victorious. Jorge Serrano, who has competed in six editions, won the silver medal in the TCA team event. Daniel Barchino competes for the second time and takes Gold in the individual TCA.
Both the mayor and city council expressed their satisfaction with the performances in some tests, which can last about 10 hours and in which they compete in different disciplines: swimming, shot put, speed, rope climbing, bench press, American track and field, and pull-ups. Likewise, they were proud of the standard of the Guadalajara Fire Department and that they had succeeded in bringing the name of the city of Guadalajara to the top.
Preparation for this type of competition requires rigorous and constant daily training in tests very similar to those that must be prepared for entry into the fire service. These tests are motivation to train and stay in shape every day since we are dealing with a profession that requires optimal physical condition and constant preparation. And both cover all expenses for the trips and competitions they participate in.
In principle, the next test of this kind would take place in the United States, in the city of Birmingham, Alabama. As for the upcoming competitions, the closest is the European competition in Torrevieja, which will be held in the city of Alicante next October.
