Florida football has handed out a handful of quarterback prospects over the past two months. The youngest one to receive one is four-star Eli Holstein from Zachary, Louisiana. Offensive coordinator Rob Sale spread the good news to Holstein on Monday.
According to the 247Sports composite rankings, Holstein is ranked 54th overall and eighth best in its position. He completed his junior season, completing 65% of his passes for 3,228 yards and throwing 30 touchdowns and only six interceptions. Holstein added 523 yards on the ground and 14 counts.
247Sports spoke to Holstein’s father, Scott Holstein. He said they are looking forward to getting to know Florida more and hope they can make a detour to the Swamp.
The Holsteins also have some ties to the Gators coaching staff. Scott played with cornerbacks coach Corey Raymond at LSU. Field analyst Russ Calloway also recruited Eli for the Tigers.
He said Ohio State, Alabama, Georgia, Miami, Stanford, Oregon and Texas A&M are currently the most difficult for him in his son’s recruitment. He is also fresh off a visit to the Crimson Tide earlier this month.
It will be interesting to see what that means for the top of the Florida quarterback board. Coach Billy Napier had bow crew, Christopher Vizzina and Marcus Stokes at the top of his list.
It probably means nothing and that the Gators are still doing their due diligence but it’s still sitting in the back of my mind.
