With summer just weeks away, the city of Chicago continues to offer a variety of free and low-cost entertainment options.
The offer this weekend ranges from Mediterranean, Mexican, and Latin American music to jazz and arts festivals. Here is a list of what is happening in the city.
Taste of Greektown
Celebrating culture and the Greek community in Chicago for the 33rd time, it will feature good Mediterranean food, live music, Greek bands, children’s games, and more entertainment. The annual food festival takes place on Saturday, August 26 and Sunday, August 27 from 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. on Halsted Street in the West Loop. For more information, see the following link:
Villapalooza
The Villapalooza art collective brings together members of the Latino community to create spaces for the spread of Hispanic culture in the city. In this edition, the music festival in La Villita brings together dozens of artists, folk dancers, singers, and DJs, as well as boxing, wrestling, and more. Pizza City Festival
If you are a pizza lover, then this event is the ideal place for you. More than 40 pizzerias and pizza makers present their best selection of this famous dish. In addition to the opportunity to enjoy a wide selection of pizzas, there will be lectures on the preparation of these dishes. General admission is $95; VIP entry is $200. Lakeview Taco Festival
As the name suggests, the tacos will be the protagonists of this event. Attendees can sample this famous Mexican stuffed dish in a variety of ways and enjoy live music, wrestlers, and children’s activities. Admission is free, but a suggested donation of $10 is requested. Festival inflatable boat “Bounce the City”
This bouncy castle festival features eight rides that encourage jumping and bouncing. One of the giant bouncy castles is 600 feet long, while others feature bottomless ball pits. and another a silent disco dome with a live DJ, lights, and special effects. The event also features a “Bounce Café” with food trucks and an outdoor seating area. Admission tickets start at $24 for a 90-minute pass. Bucktown Arts Festival
According to organizers, for nearly 40 years the renowned arts festival has aimed to nurture community artists and support arts education in Holstein Park and the Bucktown and Wicker Park neighborhoods. The festival showcases the creations of visual artists, photographers, designers, jewelers and more. There will also be live music and jazz bands. There will also be an area where children can have fun and make their own craft creations. Festival LatiNxt
This musical presents a variety of Latin American music for all visitors to enjoy on various stages at Navy Pier, including the Lake Stage, the Beer Garden and the Wave Wall.
