Today 27 April is a public holiday in the Netherlands. One of the most anticipated days is celebrated by the Dutch: King’s Day. It’s a day in which the streets and canals of many of its cities are painted orange, thanks to the T-shirts and accessories that the Dutch wear to celebrate the monarch’s birthday.
King William was photographed this morning with Maxima and his two daughters in downtown Rotterdam, the enclave chosen to spend the day, where they will visit different areas to discover its art, architecture, and history. A day of fun for which Maxima from Holland and her daughters have dressed up in the most cheery outfits with a true explosion of color.
Queen Maxima, for her part, has chosen a midi-cut dress in deep apple green with elbow-length sleeves. The design has a big bow at the waist which gives it more presence. The queen accompanies her with a tiara and basic white sandals in the same tone. The white color was also chosen for the handbag and leather gloves.
By her side, the fuchsia pink of the jacket suit chosen by Princess Amalia, which we saw a few days ago at the April Fair, stood out even more. The eldest daughter teamed it with her green Jacquemus bag and skin-colored pumps.
Standing next to her father is Princess Ariane in a discreet off-white tie-up pantsuit and jacket. But, not to be left behind, she has chosen some accessories in a luxurious royal blue color: the blouse, handbag, shoes, headband, and earrings match perfectly.
Princess Amalia holds in her arms the family’s pet Mambo, who did not want to miss the day.
This festival is being celebrated since 1885. Queen Beatrix kept the celebration date of 30 April as the birthday of her mother, Queen Juliana, and established a tradition of visiting different Dutch cities each year. Queen’s Day was renamed King’s Day in 2014, when William of the Netherlands assumed the crown, and is celebrated on 27 April, the current monarch’s birthday.
