Film director Gareth Edwards laid down after working on Rogue One. A Star Wars Story (2016) took a career break.
Gareth Edwards gained widespread attention with his film Monsters (2010), a film with a budget of just $500,000 that grossed more than $4 million. The trick was to make the threat of the monsters feel real, but only see them at the end. After that, he managed to make Godzilla (2014), a remake that played with the same thing by taking a long time to show the giant monster. The film was a success as it cost around 160 million and grossed more than 540 million.
This led to his big dream. That is, Star Wars. More specifically, it started with Rogue One, a film that Tony Gilroy completed. As the experience was very tough for Gareth Edwards and that’s why he took a break. But luckily he’s back on track and will now release The Creator.
This is how the director explains the reason for his career break.
“I had to get off the carousel, you know what I mean?” Says Gareth Edwards in an interview with SFX. “In Hollywood you can get stuck in the rat race or whatever analogy you want to use. “I just wanted to get out and take a break to take some time to think about what’s next.”
“I had to make a very low-budget sci-fi film, Monsters, and I realized that having no money had great advantages. It was kind of a shock to have all the money you could ever want and still be limited. I felt like if I could somehow get this big bag of money and send it back to when I made Monsters, the possibilities would have been endless.”
“And then in a strange way I tried to find that kind of environment again. “I was as interested in the process of making the film as I was in the idea.” Gareth Edwards concluded.
The Creator will be released on September 29, 2023. The film is a post-apocalyptic thriller that deals with a future marked by a war between humans and artificial intelligence. A topic that is currently very fashionable.
