George Santos dodges questions, hands Chick-fil-A to reporters

NEW YORK — US Representative George Santos once again reminded reporters Wednesday that he would comment on his admitted lies and recurring allegations “whenever there is a comment to be made,” and chided people stationed outside his office -Phil-A, a day after feeding them donuts, which by all accounts, they mostly ate.

“No comment for you at this time,” said the Long Island Republican with questions on the way to the elevator. “Whenever you want to comment on anything else, we’ll make those comments. I hope you’ll wait patiently, and in the meantime, we’ll be in touch.”

Asked specifically about recent claims by Santos that he was the target of an assassination attempt and a mid-day robbery on Fifth Avenue, the embattled politician asked reporters to investigate .

Santos said, “You guys are doing a good job.”

New York police said Tuesday they have no record of any robbery or attempt on the now-Congressman’s life.

The questions arose in the wake of Rachel Maddow’s Monday night show, which played a video from a Brazilian podcast that Santos recorded in December. In Portuguese, he said for the first time that an attempt had been made on his life. During the same podcast, he claimed that robbers struck in the heart of the city at Fifth Avenue and 55th Street in August 2021 at noon.

Santos said on the podcast that the thieves took his watch, briefcase and shoes.

Most New Yorkers said they do not believe the robbery charge, and recent polls show they want him to resign. Santos admitted to embellishing his job’s credentials, but said the ethics investigation would not remove him from his job.
