Giants QB coach tests positive for COVID-19; Jake Fromm in line for a possible start

Giants defender coach Jerry Shuplinski and substitute striker Wes Martin tested positive for COVID-19 on Monday, coach Joe Judge said.

Both were quarantined in Arizona as the giants’ contacts were tracked to establish any close contacts.

The team is based in Tucson, Arizona and trains at the University of Arizona ahead of Sunday’s Los Angeles Chargers.

The referee said that Jake Fromm, signed last Tuesday from the Buffalo Bills training team, will be in the first team in training while Daniel Jones (neck) and Mike Glennon (concussion) are unwell.

Fromm, selected in the fifth round of 2020 from Georgia, has never played in an NFL match. He was Buffalo’s fourth quarterback behind Josh Allen, Mitchell Trubiska and former Giants’ third-round pick Davis Webb.

Fromm, 23, who played for the first time in an NFL game last Sunday, acted as Glennon’s understudy in a 20-9 loss to the Miami Dolphins.

Jones visited more doctors on Monday, but remains weekly and is not expected to play for the second straight week. Either Glennon will clear the concussion protocol and start over, or it will be Fromm, as training squad QB Brian Leverk also intervenes.

The chargers also put Keenan Allen on the Covid list.
