The Frenchman goes to nine games without being part of his team as he is not vaccinated against Covid-19
French striker André-Pierre Gignac did not travel with Tigres to the United States to face Orlando City, in the Concacaf Champions League, because he was not vaccinated against Covid-19 and thus accumulates his ninth absence from games played in the United States since the beginning of the pandemic.
Gignac, due to his beliefs, was not vaccinated against the virus and even tested positive for Covid-19 on one occasion (in January 2022), which represented him missing days of work with those of the UANL.
Not being vaccinated caused him to miss friendlies that cats have had in the US and proof of this is that in 2021 he was not in the match against Chivas which ended in a goalless draw at HEB Park, nor against América who won 1-0 at the Alamodome and against Austin, who won 3-1.
In that same year, André-Pierre Gignac was supposed to participate in the All-Star Game against MLS, but could not even travel to the United States to play it due to the vaccine release.
In 2022, Tigres also played friendlies and lost one against América, won 2-1, another against Pachuca, also finished 2-1, and another against Santos, lost 3- 1.
Similarly, for last year’s All-Star Game, the player was not there and the last one was last September, in which the Tigres faced Dallas FC in a friendly match.
The last time Gignac played a game in the United States was the final of the CONCACAF Champions League, in which they beat Los Angeles FC to get a title in that fair for the first time, which gave him the ticket to the Club World Cup.
Now, once again, a game is lost in that country, against Orlando City, in the second leg of the round of 16 of the Concacaf Champions League.
