The six Gophers soccer program assistant coaches have contracts expiring after this season. The other four have deals until next season, according to a request made by the university for Pioneer Press.

When head coach P.J. Fleck signed a revised seven-year contract in early November, he brought in an additional $ 350,000 in assistant coaches. Fleck said how the fund will be allocated will be determined at the end of the year.

“Each year is completely different in where you want to invest these funds, depending on who stays, who you hire, who gets the job they dreamed of,” Fleck said on Monday. “I want all of my (assistants) to become head coaches one day. Just because I signed a seven-year contract – I want to make this a destination – that does not mean that each of my assistant coaches will want to make it their destination, because they all want to be head coaches, they all want to be a coordinator, and I I understand that. ”

“Of course you want to save as much as possible,” he added. “Keep the trainers who want to be coordinators, who are your coordinators, as best you can. Then you can distribute (the fund) as much as you can. ”

Rossi was nominated this week for the Broyles Award, presented annually by the country’s chief assistant coach. The Rossi Defense ranks among the top 26 programs in points, total yards, yards and passes allowed this season.

“I don’t think there is a coach who cares more, is more detailed and passionate than coach Rossi,” said midfielder Mariano Sori-Marin. “I walked into the locker room after practice (on Tuesday) and saw Gopher post this on Instagram, and the first thing I did was write to him. He replied, “Let’s get back to work on Indiana.” Coach Rossi is just that kind of person. He doesn’t want to receive any honors. ”
