Durango Governor Esteban Villegas Villarreal announced his commitment to maintaining and strengthening the presence of sports teams in the region as part of the strategy to enrich entertainment offerings in the various sports branches.
After confirming that the Los Generales baseball team will remain in Durango, the president stressed his determination to keep Club Alacranes, the local soccer team that was threatened with departure a few months ago.
He noted that he is in contact with the president of the league nationally and is looking for agreements that will allow the Alacranes to return to the Expansion League starting in January.
Regarding the “Leñadores” basketball team, Governor Villegas Villarreal pointed out that the owner has expressed his intention to sell the team since it has not proven to be a profitable business. He even asked to look for potential buyers from whom he charges a significant amount to purchase the equipment.
In addition, the possibility of adding Durango to a volleyball league is currently being explored due to the great interest and enthusiasm for the sport in the region.
The governor highlighted the community’s enthusiasm during recent tournaments at the People’s Auditorium, where seats were sold out.
He explained that the main goal is to provide the Durango community, including visitors, with a wide range of entertainment options with sports equipment so that people can enjoy quality events in a family and friendly environment.
In addition, he reported that, in collaboration with the mayor, work is underway to invest resources in the Popular Auditorium in Gómez Palacio so that La Laguna fans can also enjoy sporting events.
