Gridley, Las Plumas Soccer Open with BVL season draw | local roundup

The boys’ soccer teams from Gridley and Las Plumas High School opened the Butte Vue League game in Oroville Tuesday afternoon with a 3-3 draw.

All six goals between the two teams were scored in the first half, as neither team could take the lead in the second half.

Carlos Gutierrez Soria of Las Plumas scored two goals, giving Junior seven goals in three games, as the Thunderbirds started the season after a four-goal game against Foothill on Friday. Senior Nicolas Zarate scored his third goal for LP, his first of the season.

Alexis Gutierrez Soria and Shawn Curry assisted one each for the LP.

Ricardo Ramos, Gilberto Jiménez and Eddie Rodriguez scored one goal each for Gridley. Ramos added two assistants.

Gridley’s goalkeeper Cristian Benitez made seven saves in the draw.

No goalkeeping statistics were recorded for Las Plumas.

Gridley (1-1-1, 0-0-1 BVL) plays the following Thursday at 5 p.m. at Pierce.

Las Plumas (1-2-1, 0-0-1 BVL) plays in Orlande on Tuesday at 3:15 pm.

Prep Girls Soccer

Whitney 5, Pleasant Valley 0: Pleasant Valley lost at home on Tuesday night.

The Vikings had seven shots, three of which were in the net in the loss.

PV (0-2) plays next in the foothill tournament on Friday at 11am.

Prep Boys Basketball

Mount Shasta 71, Heaven 45: Jannat was lost in the house on Tuesday night. Evan McCutcheon led the Bobcats with 13 points, including a pair of 3-pointers and five free throws.

Tristan Jackson scored 10 points and Braden Gonzalez scored seven points.

Kellen Ricomini scored 26 points for Mount Shasta (4-2) and Cameron Collord scored 19 points.

Paradise (2-3) will play against Corning in the Central Valley tournament next Friday at 3:30 pm.

Del Oro 60, Pleasant Valley 35: Pleasant Valley lost to Del Oro on Monday night. The Vikings’ record now sits at 4-4 and Eastern Athletic League play begins on January 7.

Caitlyn Vickery led the PV with nine points and Maria Lecher with five points. For Del Oro, Madison Butcher had 16 points, Gabby Kim had 14 points and Livy Wood had 11 points.

PV Folsom will next play against Calaveras in the tournament at 5:30 pm on Thursday.
