A Pennsylvania man was found guilty of attempting to sexually assault his wife’s groom just two days before their wedding.
Daniel Carney was found guilty in Monroe County court on Thursday of four counts of unwanted sexual encounters during the celebration of his wedding in 2019.
WNEP reported that the jury panel, made up of seven men and five women, delivered the verdict after nine hours of deliberation.
In addition to the charge of attempted sexual assault, the jurors also convicted her of aggravated indecent assault, obscene assault and simple assault.
He was acquitted of the charge of attempt to rape.
Carney’s attorney, Jim Swetz, told People magazine that he was disappointed with the outcome of the trial and was planning to file an appeal.
Prosecutors argued that 30-year-old Carney sexually assaulted a female member of his wedding party in the men’s locker room at the Shawnee Inn while she was too drunk to consent to a sexual encounter after a pre-wedding rafting trip .
Carney’s defense claimed the 29-year-old was conscious and knew what she was doing to Carney in the shower.
During the trial, Carney’s wife, Nicole Carney, testified in her husband’s defense, telling the court that the woman was “conscious and aware” when he busted her and her bride and groom in the locker room shower.
Carney told the witness stand Wednesday that the bridegroom abetted the sexual encounter and followed her into the locker room, where he went to take a bath, though prosecutors said he didn’t take any bath items with him.
According to a criminal complaint, the bride’s friend said that she had come during the encounter to bite and hold Carney’s hand. She blacked out again, saying she woke up later to find Carney on top of her and her bikini bottom.

According to the complaint, when the bride noticed the absence of her bride and groom, she went in search of them and added them to the locker room shower. She shouted at Daniel and ran to find her maid of honor.
According to the complaint, the next morning, Carney called the groom to apologize, but he told her that she felt very upset and upset.
Then on the day of the wedding, Carney texted the bride’s friend again to say she was sorry, and asked her to take an emergency contraceptive pill, according to the document.

Police overheard a call between Carney and the victim, during which he denied that they had sex, but admitted that his “D-K was out in the shower.”
“We’ve never done that, but would you consider taking on Plan B just to be sure?” He reportedly told the woman while referring to a popular brand of morning-after pill. “Almost no chance, but still.”
When interviewed by police, Carney first claimed he was drunk and thought the victim had taken advantage of him, but later admitted to dragging him into the locker room by the hand, police said.

According to WFMZ, after the wedding, the groom reported the incident to the police and went to the hospital to be examined by doctors, who found 13 bruises all over her body.
Carney’s lawyer claimed that the woman suffered injuries from repeated falls in the water during a rafting trip, but prosecutors said based on her medical evaluation, her condition was consistent with sexual assault.
Carney is out on $750,000 bond until sentencing on July 26.
