The level of water underground around the world experienced a descendants widespread and rapid in the last 40 years, this is due to unsustainable irrigation practices and climate change, a study says.
Groundwater is an important source of water dulce for farms, homes, and industries, and their EExhaustioncan cause serious economic and environmental threats, such as low crop yields and damaging soil erosion, especially along the coast, saccording tothe study, published in the scientific journal NATURE.

But the drought because of the Renewal climate also influences the farmers by pumping more water into the ground to ensure irrigation of their crops.
According to the study, which analyzed 170,000 wells in more than 40 countries, depletion is particularly pronounced in arid climates with extensive farmland. Northern China, Iran, and the western United States were among the worst affected regions.
More than a third of the 1,693 systems aquifers (masses of porous rock or sediments that remain in groundwater) analyzed in the study decreased by at least .1 meter per year between 2000 and 2022, and at a 12% annual decrease of more than .5 meter was recorded.
Some of those aquifers most of those affected in Spain, Iran, China, and the United States decreased by more than two meters per year during that period. In about 30% of the aquifers studied, the rate of depletion has accelerated since 2000.
Some aquifers have improved over time, partly as a result of local measures aimed at controlling the amount of water to be a pump.
Aquifers can also be replenished with water diverted from other areas. However, these recoveries are “relatively SHORT” and more to be done, Jasechko stated.
