Hate crimes reported in US schools nearly doubled between 2018 and 2022

In 2022, they reported about 1,300 hate crimes in elementary, secondary, and university settings, compared to 700 reported in 2018, which represents an increase of 90%.

Hate crimes reported by educational entities mostly happened in elementary and secondary schools, according to documents that analyzed data collected by local, state, and federal authorities over five years.

Between 2018 and 2022 More than 4,300 hate crimes were reported in schools, and the type of bias most frequently repeated during that period was against African Americans. followed by hatred of Jews and members of the LGBTQ+ community.

The hate crime most reported in education centers over the years is bullying. Second, it is occupied by reports of vandalism or property damage, including graffiti with hateful symbols or words.

In 2022, a total of 13,346 hate crimes were reported, all of which happened in the United States.

This is the first time that the FBI and the Department of Justice (DOJ) have published a detailed analysis of hate crime cases in elementary, high, and university settings.
