Head of US diplomacy arrives in Chile to meet President Boric

The head of United States diplomacy, Anthony Blinken, arrived in Chile this afternoon, where he will meet with President Gabriel Borrick and Chancellor Antonia Urrezola as part of the start of a tour of Latin America by House of Representatives White.

United States Secretary of State, Antony Blinken arrived in Santiago this Tuesday to meet yesterday with President Gabriel Boric, As part of his tour of South America.

The secretary’s plane landed at Arturo Merino Benítez Airport in the Chilean capital at 6:08 pm, where he was received by US Ambassador to Chile Bernadette Meehan.

The leaders of US diplomacy will meet with Boric and Secretary of State Antonia Urrezola on WednesdayTo address issues such as the migration crisis, human rights, the climate crisis and the pursuit of investment.

The meeting will come a month after a referendum in which Chile overwhelmingly rejected a proposal for a new constitution, considered the world’s greenest and most feminist, in a massive blow to the Boric government.

Following the meeting with the President of Chile, the External Affairs Minister is expected to visit the National Electricity Coordinator (CEN) of Chile, where US companies have participation.

He will also meet the alumni of the US-sponsored educational program Young Leaders of America, before continuing his tour of Peru.

Despite ideological differences with Boric, a former student leader who in March became the youngest president in the country’s historyWashington views its commitment to the environment and human rights favorably.

In particular, it celebrates the criticism that Borík has for human rights violations committed by the governments of Nicolas Maduro in Venezuela and Daniel Ortega in Nicaragua.

However, the Chilean president criticized the United States’ decision to exclude Caracas and Managua from the US summit in Los Angeles (USA) last June.

On Monday, the secretary of state began a tour of Latin America with the leftist governments of Colombia, Chile and Peru to try to bring the situation closer.

Blinken visits with Juan Gonzalez, President Joe Biden’s Senior Adviser for Latin America, and Brian Nichols, the Under Secretary of State for Latin American Affairs.
