Healthcare giant Northwell denies some benefits to workers fired due to vaccine mandate

Northwell Health, New York’s largest healthcare provider, is denying some benefits to dismissing health workers because they have refused to comply with the state’s Covid-1 vaccine order for health workers.

Those who are laid off lose all employer contributions to their retirement plans for this year, unless they are over 62 years old. By Epoch Times.

Employees who are leaving the company can usually pay up to 150 hours of PTO, the person who provided the leaflet told The Epoch Times.

The person who asked not to be named said in an email that “stopping paid leave would be unethical and would put more financial pressure on laid-off workers because they are not even eligible for unemployment.”

Northwell spokesman Jason Molinett told The Epoch Times that the company could not comment specifically on employees when asked about the benefit issue. He said in a statement that Northwell’s staff, about 76,000 strong, was “close to being 100% vaccinated”.

“While maintaining the continuity of care and ensuring that high standards of patient safety are not compromised in any way, Northwell has taken a quick, aggressive approach to successfully moving toward rapid vaccination compliance,” the statement said via email.

“Unfortunately, we’ve had hundreds of employees go out, but we’re happy to report that most team members are deciding to get vaccinated so they can’t be stopped.”

Thousands of nurses and other hospital staff have been put on leave, and will be fired because the state vaccination order for hospital staff expired on September 27. At least some hospital arrangements have given their staff some time to change their minds and get shots to get back to work.

The mandate expelled workers can be left without access to unemployment insurance unless they legally seek health or religious exemptions, “because it is a workplace where an employer has a vested interest in such an order,” the state Department of Labor said on its website.

New York, and especially New York City, is at the forefront of making vaccines mandatory in more areas of society. In addition to state orders for health care workers, the city requires vaccinations for teachers, other school employees, government employees, employees and customers sitting in restaurants, as well as workers and customers in theaters, gyms, cinemas and other establishments.

New vaccines invented in record time and still in clinical trials are known to cause serious side effects, such as myocarditis, in most young people and for blood clots, although authorities and experts say it is rarer and less risky than disease. Although vaccines do not necessarily prevent Kovid-1 contract infection and spread, clinical trials indicate that they reduce symptoms.
