After many months of development and rumors, The KIA EV9 finally makes an appearance It is clear that the Koreans want to change the electricity market. With the largest form factor seen so far, the EV9 becomes the company’s new flagship. The first images show that the design will not leave anyone indifferent. At the moment, many technical details remain to be revealed, although KIA will release them later this month.
Everyone thought the EV9 was going to be spectacular. Based on the e-GMP platform, it boasts of not only being the largest electric car in the house, but also being bigger than the KIA Sorento. Any way you look at it, the new Korean electric SUV is turning heads. In front of it, the American style nose stands out, because in a way it takes part of its design from the KIA Telluride, a model that is not sold in Europe.
Although KIA hasn’t specified any dimensions, this is simply bigger than the Sorento He encourages us to think of a total between 4.9 and 5 meters long. The strength of the design is significant in the part of the views where the wheel arches can be seen very marked and full, a common feature of SUVs, or the seats that are highlighted in black plastic. The sense of chance is clearly demonstrated, although at first it does not seem that its far-reaching dimensions will suffer too many obstacles.
After that, designers again abused horizontal lines to generate that sense of width and aesthetic potential. The main headlights occupy the large rear ends of the body. The rear is installed behind the rear right wheel arch and the rest of the design is completed by large and uniquely designed wheel arches. In a few months, when the marketing stage goes, we will know the multiple endings of the KIA EV9 Spain.
If the exterior is struck, the interior is no less grateful. Although KIA opted for a very similar aesthetic with the KIA EV6, they demonstrate that the Koreans have once again taken a huge leap in quality. At first glance, it has a good feel and, although minimal, the presence of two large panels on the dashboard stands out. Two 12.3-inch screens through which each and every function of the vehicle can be handled. Below it, camouflaged on the edge of the dashboard, are quick access buttons for the most important functions, such as air conditioning.
KIA envisioned the EV9 as an electric family with high doses. A midway between an SUV and a minivan, practical solutions abound throughout the cabin. I have lots of storage spaces scattered throughout the house and a second row seating with two seats that can be rotated 180 degrees to be completely covered with two additional seats hidden in the trunk. This option excludes one seat, however we assume that within the standard equipment KIA will offer three rows of conventional seats with a distribution of 2+3+2.
The EV9 will have several interior configurations with 6 or 7 seats.
As for the technical section, KIA EV9 has revealed very little about what the electrical scheme will be on board. Using a platform shared with Hyundai, one can expect systems of one or two motors combined with the largest batteries in the house. The only information that has been attempted is autonomy. With a width of about 500 kilometers we are not able to compete against the most electric in the marketbut for the expected size and weight it seems to be the most correct memory. We will know more details at the end of this month.
