High school football: Week 7 Friday predictions

Take a look at Friday’s high school soccer games featuring East Metro teams:

Stillwater (6-0) to Mounds View (3-3), 7pm

In 2019, the Mounds View finished 4-0 before their perfect season was ruined by Stillwater. Will Mustangs be able to regain favor in 2021? Friday could be a good setting for the Ponies before their titanic tilt next Wednesday with Eden Prairie. Or maybe the Ponies will be caught off guard. Stillwater is assumed to be ready to play, as is the entire season. Our choice: Stillwater 28, Mounds View 14

Simli (4-2) to Makhtomedi (4-2), 19:00

Simley is in the midst of another successful season, but the Spartans have lost their two biggest trials to date, beating Hastings and Robbinsdale Cooper. This is Simli’s last chance for a big win before heading into the postseason. Mahtomedi is probably disappointed with his loss in the last game against St. Thomas Academy last week, but even the defeat was another reminder that Zephyrs can go head-to-head with anyone. Our choice: Makhtomedi 21, Simli 13

Centenary (4-2) at Minnetonka (5-1), 19:00

Centennial coach Mike Diggins swears that the Cougars can get through when they need to. When will this happen? Centennial’s defense was so stifling this season, averaging just nine points per game, that the attacker had a license for pretty much anything he wanted. Could Minnetonka put pressure on the Puma offensive? Unlikely. Our choice: Centennial 20 Minnetonka 10

East Ridge (3–3) to Eastview (3–3), 7:00 pm

East Ridge has been on opposite ends of thrillers for weeks on end, ahead of Woodbury, and last week lost to Osseo in overtime. If the Raptors pose a threat after the season ends, they need to attack something. Perhaps the attack will kick off this week against the Eastview defense, which has amassed more than 26 points in four of its last five games. But to Eastview’s credit, Lightning is gaining traction as the winners of three of the last four. Our choice: East Ridge 20, Eastview 14

Prescott (5-3) in Osceola (7-1), 19:00

Both teams are banned from the Wisconsin 4th Division playoffs starting next week. But Friday’s slope can play a big role in determining how many home playoff games these teams will play. With the victory, Prescott can tie Osceola and place second in the Middle Border Conference after Ellsworth. Our choice: Osceola 27, Prescott 17

Rice Lake (6-2) to New Richmond (6-2), 7:00 pm

This season’s Big Rivers Conference was a tale of the poor and the poor. Five teams will finish with conference record winners, and the other three will come out this week with one or fewer conference victories. Both of these two teams are haves and legitimate threats to the Wisconsin Third Division playoffs. Rice Lake needs a win to earn a stake in the BRC conference championship with Menomonie. Our choice: New Richmond 14, Rice Lake 13
