High schools in Oconee Co earn national recognition

Oconee County and North Oconee High Schools have been named by U.S. News and World Report as the two top high schools in the country: both schools rank in the top six percent of the United States in the magazine’s latest ranking.

From the Oconee County School District website…

North Oconee High School and Oconee County High School are both named in the top 6% of high schools nationwide by U.S. News and World Report. Oconee County was the only system in Northeast Georgia to have any school rank in the top 6%.

Superintendent Jason L. “Congratulations to both North Oconee High School and Oconee County High School for being consistently named among the best high schools in the country,” Branch said. “Oconee County is an amazing community and this level of continued excellence has been achieved because of our world-class teachers and leaders, hard-working students and supportive parents.”

North Oconee High School was ranked in the top 3% nationwide. Oconee County High School was ranked in the top 6% nationwide. NOHS and OCHS were the two highest ranked high schools in Northeast Georgia.

To create the rankings, US News and World Report started with about 24,000 public high schools nationwide and then ranked them according to six indicators. There are six rating indicators: college readiness (30%), math and reading proficiency (20%), math and reading performance (20%), college curriculum breadth (10%), and low student performance (10%) , and do graduation rating 10%).
