Highway 4. But two died in different weekend accidents

The California Highway Patrol said a passenger in a car and a motorcyclist died on Highway 4 in separate accidents over the weekend.

Officials did not identify either of the two who died in the early hours of Monday, pending notification of their relatives.

This year the death toll on the highway is fourth and fifth. All these have happened since March 27.

A 21-year-old man was killed after an accident at around 11:50 p.m. Sunday in the east near State Highway 160, according to a statement from CHP spokesman Officer Adam Lane. A blue Chrysler PT cruiser was involved in that accident, and the man was a front-seat passenger in it, the CHP said.

The CHP said the car lost control without warning and turned on the right side of the highway. The young man was taken to the hospital by ambulance, where he died.

The CHP said the 42-year-old woman driving the PT cruiser was arrested on suspicion of DUI and is hospitalized with serious injuries that are life-threatening. According to the CHP, three other passengers, two of whom were under the age of 18, were admitted to the hospital, and two passengers under the age of 18 suffered serious injuries.

The motorcycle accident happened at around 9:50 pm on Saturday night when the driver of the Yamaha R-6 lost control and overturned while heading east. The CHP said the accident occurred just west of the Railroad Avenue exit and threw the motorcyclist off the bike.
