A neighborhood in northern Rancho Cucamonga nods to its annual tradition: welcoming visitors to view homes decorated with colorful lights, holiday sculptures, and the occasional in-sync Christmas music.
The displays, mostly along Sapphire, Thoroughbred and Janet roads, attract around 5,000 to 9,000 vehicles on the busiest days in December, which can result in hours of waits and traffic jams on the 210 freeway a mile away.
Restrictions have been imposed by the city, including a ban on pedestrians on Thoroughbred, Janet and Turquoise Avenues on certain days, to control crowds and ensure the safety of the public.
As a result, the drive-thru-only view runs from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. Friday-Sunday, December 3-5, and December 10-24 at the same time. Some days of pedestrian viewing are reserved for Monday-Thursday, December 6-9 from 5 pm to 11 pm.
