Hollywood stars call for stricter US gun laws after Texas school shooting

Hollywood stars have called for an end to violence and hardening of US gun laws in the wake of a mass shooting at an elementary school in Texas.

Chris Evans and several artists including George Takei, Phineas, Jake Paul and Kylie Jenner were among those to express feelings of shock, sadness and outrage over the tragic incident.

At least 18 children and a teacher have been killed in a shooting by a teenage gunman at Rob Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas.

Poet Amanda Gorman, who rose to fame after reading at the inauguration ceremony of US President Joe Biden in January 2021, wrote a poem after the Texas shooting and posted it on social media.

It read: “Schools are scared to death.

“The truth is, an education fell down under the desk, from bullets; He drowns when we ask.

“Where will our children live and how and if.”

Sharing a link to gun violence charity Everytown, Gorman captioned his post: “Americans- you know enough.

Captain America Star Evans wrote in all capitals: “F****** enough!”

Veteran Star Trek actor George Takei said: “There are no words. And there is never any action.

“If we want to change things, we must demand it from our leaders.”

YouTube star and boxer Jake Paul also criticized US leaders for their lack of action.

“My thoughts and prayers are with the families, children and citizens of Uvalde, Texas,” he said.

“This s*** is so unfair.

“It’s sickening what people are capable of and it makes me sick that our schools, senators and those in power have done nothing to protect America’s children.”

“My heart breaks for these families.”
