How much will the minimum wage increase at the border?

The Council of Representatives of the National Minimum Wage Commission (Conasami) analyzed the proposals and then announced the resolution regarding the increase to be implemented on January 1, 2024.

In the last five years, the minimum wage left a good taste in the mouths of the workers, because it only went from 88.36 pesos per day to 207.45. However, at the end of this year, there are two proposals aimed at increasing the salary received by workers in the country.

The Employers’ Confederation of the Mexican Republic (Coparmex) proposed an increase of 12.4 percent within the country, which would leave the daily income of Mexicans at 234 pesos, while at the border they proposed an increase of only 8 percent, due because they consider that. the northern part of the country has already achieved the objectives of the welfare line.

For its part, the federal government has not issued a formal proposal on how much it wants to increase the minimum wage, but the amount is expected to be close to 20 percent, as President Andrés Manuel López Obrador recently stated.

In 2022, the minimum wage registered an increase of 20 percent, workers from an income of 172.87 per day to 207.44, while in the so-called Free Zone, where all the border towns, the minimum wage stands at 312.41 pesos.
