Michael Lee:
Absolutely.
I mean, and they were prominent, especially during the period where they had Kevin Durant. But this — you always hear that you’ll never see another team like this. And you wouldn’t, because, a lot of times, when you have a dynasty, you have the number one pick or the top three pick that just turns into Michael Jordan or Bill Russell or Magic Johnson. You have these basic players that you know, the moment you pick them, that you’re going to win some titles with these guys.
With the Warriors, no one knew that Steph Curry was going to be the foundation of a franchise team. Klay Thompson was the 11th pick. Draymond Green was the 35th pick. So, when you’re picking up indigenous talent, they’re actually picking at the back of the lottery.
So the ones they selected were not expected to be basic pieces. And then Steph Curry’s slow pace to become a superstar in this league, he didn’t become MVP until his sixth season, but he wasn’t an All-Star until his fourth. In such a situation, there are many doubts about him, because his ankles have been hurt.
And he signed one of the best deals in NBA history, a four-year $44 million deal that really allowed this dynasty to happen, as he had to cap the spot to sign Andre Iguodala. And then he had a huge Cap Boon which opened up space for him to sign Kevin Durant. It was unprecedented. It never happened.
And they were able to go ahead and build a dynasty with him. And everyone thought it was over when Kevin Durant was gone. But, again, Steph Curry, he’s a unique player we’ve never seen in this league, a 6’3″ guard who can dominate the game. We usually get that kind of dominance from a center .
But the three-point shot, the way he revolutionized the game and led the entire movement, is his moment. And he is taking advantage of it.
