Hundreds of Google employees sign a manifesto opposing the company’s vaccine mandate

At least 600 Google employees signed a manifesto opposing the company’s COVID-19 vaccination requirement, which is said to apply to all 150,000 employees working in the office and remotely, in accordance with the requirements set by the White House.

The Biden administration set a January 4 deadline for all employees in the country working in companies with more than 100 full-time employees to be fully vaccinated or routinely tested for COVID-19. In response, Google asked employees to upload their vaccination status to Google’s Environment and Safety team by December 3. Many employees are returning to their offices following the easing of restrictions on the pandemic.

The manifesto asks management to create a new mandate “including all Google employees” and colleagues “to oppose this mandate in principle”.

“I believe Sundar’s mandate to vaccinate is deeply flawed,” the authors of the manifesto say, according to CNBC. “These Google employees may never feel comfortable expressing their true opinions about the company’s health policy and other unrelated sensitive topics. This silences the perspective and exacerbates the internal ideological echo chamber that people both inside and outside of Google have been watching for years. “

In terms of uploading vaccine data for individual employees, the document says, “I don’t believe Google should have access to health and medical history information for Google employees, and vaccination status is no exception.”

Google retained its position and said that all employees on government contracts, whether they work in the office or not, should be vaccinated.

“As we have stated to all of our employees and to the author of this document, our vaccination requirements are one of the most important ways to keep our employees safe and ensure the smooth running of our services. We strongly support our vaccination policy, ”a Google spokesman told CNBC.

The authors of the manifesto called Google’s leadership “compulsory,” and sent an open letter to Google’s chief health officer, Karen DeSalvo, M.D., stating that “the consequences would scare” companies around the world if a market leader like Google complies with the requirements. vaccines. …

“This will normalize the compulsion to medical intervention not only for COVID-19 vaccination, but also for future vaccines and possibly even non-vaccine interventions in the future,” the document says. “It justifies the principle of separation and unequal treatment of Googlers based on their personal beliefs and decisions.”

Worker opposition comes at a time when Google is trying to get into the healthcare industry among its other businesses.

According to the CDC, 82.2 percent of all American adults have been vaccinated at least partially against COVID-19.

Google representatives did not immediately respond to The Epoch Times’ request for comment.
