The effects of the hurricane will not be limited to Orissa or West Bengal, but will affect all the eight states of the country. However, states other than Orissa and West Bengal will receive mainly rains.
Which state will be affected?
Andhra Pradesh: –
The coastal areas of Andhra Pradesh will receive light to moderate rains from May 24. Rainfall will increase on May 25 and 26.
Orissa: –
Rain is expected in South Orissa from May 24. Heavy to very heavy rains are expected in the northern coastal region of Orissa from May 25 tomorrow. The meteorological department has forecast heavy rains with strong winds on May 25 and 26, especially in areas including Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Mayurbhanj, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack and Jajpur.
West Bengal – Sikkim: –
Extensive rainfall is expected on the 25th in Madinipur, North and South 24 Parganas, Howrah, Hooghly districts of West Bengal. On May 26, there will be heavy rains in Madinipur, North and South 24 Parganas, Howrah, Hooghly, Kolkata, Nadia, Bardhaman, Bankura, Purulia, Birbhum. It will rain in Darjeeling, Dinajpur, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, Sikkim on May 27.
Jharkhand: –
It will rain in Jharkhand on 26th and 27th. There will be light to moderate rainfall in some areas. While some areas will receive heavy rains.
Bihar: –
Scattered showers are forecast in Bihar on May 27.
Assam – Meghalaya: –
Heavy rains are expected in most parts of Assam and Meghalaya on May 26 and 27 after hurricane Yaas dispersed and turned into low pressure.
How high will the waves bounce?
The Bay of Bengal sea will be very stormy due to hurricane Yaas. Waves 3 to 4 meters high (9 to 12 feet) are expected to rise in the sea. The seas in northern Andhra Pradesh, Orissa, West Bengal and Bangladesh are likely to become rough from May 25 and 26 tomorrow.
Warning to fishermen: –
Hurricane Yaas will cause severe storms in the Bay of Bengal. In view of this, the meteorological department has warned the fishermen of Andhra Pradesh, Orissa and West Bengal not to plow the sea till further notice from today.
