I am an attractive driver for 2025

Fernando Alonso has just presented his new Aston Martin for the 2024 season, but the unknown about its future has raised many questions in a media meeting. Will you continue the competition in 2025? Will he choose to replace Hamilton at Mercedes? The Asturian does not close himself to anything and knows his worth: “I am an attractive driver for 2025.”

“My situation is unique now. There are three world champions on the grid. And I’m the only one available to see 2025. But if I decide whether I want to continue in 2025, I will talk to Aston Martin first, Alonso said.

In this sense, Alonso denied talking to Mercedes about taking the wheel that Hamilton will leave for free when he leaves Ferrari: “There are no contacts. I know that the movement in the market started earlier this year. But it does not affect me. I have no time to think carefully about the future now.”. Alonso believes that the Briton will do well with the Italian team: “Ferrari is a special team, but it’s even more special when you win. Maybe Lewis can contribute to more of the fight for the championship because the car is there,” he predicted.

“Years ago I would have said the limit would have been 41 or 42 years. Now, maybe 50”

The Asturian has all doors open, even those that will not continue in Formula 1. “That idea is 50 to 50. Every year, the season can be the last. And I don’t have a contract for next year,” he said. “I’m fine now, but I want this season to be different, so my friends and family can go to more races.”

“Years ago, I would have said that the limit would have been 41 or 42 years. Now, maybe a couple of years more. But, because of the results of all the physical tests I did in the winter, maybe it is 48 or 49. Or maybe 50 But in these cases, you have to sacrifice everything in life. There are still things in life that I know,” he admitted.

“They will continue to ask me about my contract many times, but for now I have to go through several phases and first see what I want to do in the future.”. I love driving, and I love F1, but there are other categories too. And if I don’t continue in F1, I will go to other categories, which will allow me to have more time in my private life.

Goal for 2024: “I want to always be in the points.”

With 32 victories in Formula 1, Fernando did not reach the desired ’33’ last year but increased his number of podiums in the premier category to 106, where he also had 22 pole positions and 24 fastest laps. Asked about his goals for 2024 and whether he can fight for the World Cup, he’s in the mood: “If it’s not like that, I’m not here; I’m in a bar, drinking beer,” with the team”.

“I want to be in the points always, always. Fight for the podiums on a repeated basis. Hopefully the eight of last year will be repeated, or they will be at least. I hope that the victory will come—the first for this team, for Aston Martin—the first in green. And that I can be behind the wheel. It is a privilege to have my name in the history of this brand. But it’s hard to know now. Until we do the first tests, we won’t know,” he said.

“The grid will be super competitive.”

“The grid is going to be super competitive,” explained the ‘flagship’ of the Silverstone team. “Let’s not forget that we have two Red Bulls, two Ferraris, two Mercedes, and two McLarens. In fact, they finished the year a step or two ahead of us. And there are eight cars. Therefore, you can stand ninth in a moment and leave with a rather strange face. Even Alpha Tauri was very accomplished last year,” he said.
